our perspective

we believe Māori are descendants from the greatest scientists of Aotearoa, having inherited an intrinsic understanding of     kaitiakitanga (caring for the land) from their tāhū (ancestral) roots. Embracing this, we believe Māori-led innovation will play a key role in reducing the impact of climate change in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Te Whatunga Hiko aims to build, grow and develop Māori expertise in the electricity industry. We want to address this at the origin, to inspire and encourage more rangatahi to become a part of the sector. We can’t solve the problems of tomorrow with only the knowledge of today, so we pass on our mātauranga to future generations. We want to inspire our rangatahi to be entrepreneurs, inventing new technologies to address problems such as climate change. We focus this education and inspiration around STEMM, science, technology, engineering, maths and mātauranga.
